Housed in our Victorian former Coach House are 400 years’ worth of documents (some six thousand items) which include deeds, journals, letters, receipts and photographs.
The Marriott family has lived on the Cotesbach Estate for over 250 years and their papers offer a unique insight into life in Georgian and Victorian times. The National Archives have described our collection as ‘of considerable historical importance’.
In 2014 we were listed on ARCHON, the National Archives’ international database of repositories which have substantial collections of manuscripts relating to British history. This is a significant milestone for us, marking our first internet presence. Our team of dedicated volunteers is now working to make our entire catalogue available on-line.
To find out more, search for Cotesbach on the Archives Hub or the ARCHON Directory websites. Our Archive is open (without charge) to the public for research on an appointment basis.
