Welcome to C.E.T

Welcome to the Trust

  • Cotesbach Educational Trust is looking for trustees!
  • We are small charitable organisation in South Leicestershire, which comprises a Grade II listed Victorian schoolhouse and three adjacent buildings, set within the grounds of Cotesbach Estate.
  • Cotesbach Hall, which lies at the heart of the Estate, has been home to the Marriott family since the mid 18th Century.
  • Our mission is to provide educational opportunities relating to environment, heritage and arts, using the land, local history and extensive family archive as the focus to ‘reconnect with place and land to develop skills for the future’.
  • We live in a fast changing society; we endeavour to enable people to better understand their roots and discover from the past and the surroundings how to forge a more sustainable future.
  • Since 2009 CET has developed largely thanks to the financial support of Heritage Lottery Fund. This support is now coming to an end and we are moving into a period when the Trust will need to rely on funding its activities entirely from its own resources. In consequence it is also likely that it will need to operate, at least in the short term, as a volunteer only organisation.
  • This new era for the Trust poses challenges but at the same time offers opportunities to shape and redefine its vision. This is why we are looking for new trustees to help shape and be part of the next stage of our development.
  • It is an exciting time for us. The Marriott family archive is about to come fully online and is on the verge of revealing its full potential as a resource from which we can ‘reconnect with place and land to develop skills for the future’. We are particularly keen to develop partnerships through which the wealth of stories from the archive can be brought into the light of day.
  • A glimpse of the archive’s ability to inspire is evident from our 2015 Arts Council funded ‘Rewriting the Archive’ project, the outcome of which is available to view & listen to via our website homepage. You will also see from our Events Programme & Educational Offer the sort of activities that have emerged over the last three years but there remains a real untapped potential for developing all of these into the future.
  • If you feel that you might like to join us in taking CET into the next exciting stage of its development then have a look next at ‘What we are looking for’.
